SONG CONSTITUENCY: KEFAS RETURNS TO VOTERS WITH RECORD OF PROJECTS.
By Edom John
Hon. Emmanuel Kefas, the member representing Song Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, has intensified efforts toward his re-election bid under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), presenting his first-term legislative record and constituency interventions as the foundation of his campaign.
Kefas, who assumed office in 2023, is seeking another term with an emphasis on experience, grassroots engagement, and continuity in representation.
His supporters argue that his first term provided an opportunity to better understand the needs of communities across Song Local Government Area through interactions with traditional rulers, youth groups, women associations, farmers, traders, students, and other residents.
Within the state legislature, Kefas has supported and sponsored bills aimed at the creation of Dumne, Chibawuro, and Gben districts, alongside a proposed Yungur Chiefdom. Supporters say the measures are intended to improve inclusion, local administration, and community representation.
He also backed the Adamawa Indigenous Languages Commission Bill, a proposal aimed at promoting the preservation of indigenous languages and cultural identity in the state.
As Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Security, Kefas has participated in legislative oversight on security-related issues and community engagements aimed at promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
At the constituency level, several interventions have been linked to his tenure. These include the provision of transformers in Koti and Balma communities, support for rehabilitation efforts along the Loko,Dumne Road, and the installation of boreholes and hand pumps in communities including Dirma, Dumne, Song Waje, Sigire, Gudu/Mboi, Suktu Zumo, and Song Gari.
In the education sector, constituency projects reportedly include scholarships and bursaries for students, classroom construction and renovation, and the distribution of learning materials.
Women and youth empowerment programmes, including financial support and vocational assistance such as sewing machine distribution, have also formed part of his constituency outreach.
Healthcare interventions associated with his office include medical outreach programmes, cholera response efforts in Ba’awo community, and rehabilitation support for the Primary Health Care Clinic in Pulle-Yanka.
As preparations for the next election gather momentum, Kefas’ campaign appears focused on persuading voters that continuity in leadership could strengthen ongoing development efforts and expand constituency representation in the state assembly.
Political observers say incumbents often rely on their performance record and familiarity with local concerns to make a case for re-election, particularly in constituencies where grassroots engagement plays a significant role in voter decisions.
